          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">In response to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology　(MEXT)'s call for a more balanced English education in Japan, this paper specifically addresses the use of Educational Technology (EdTech) to enhance reading and writing skills. Building on my previous research that investigated EdTech's role in fostering listening and speaking skills, this paper explores EdTech services for improving English reading and writing skills, grounded in the theoretical frameworks of second language acquisition. This paper also examines the potential applications of ChatGPT, as one example of generative AI, in the pedagogy and practice of teaching and learning reading and writing. It concludes by addressing ethical concerns associated with the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT, while exploring its potential use for English language education.</datacite:description>
