| 内容記述 | The post-war Germany and Japan had behaved differently, emerging as a different kind of powers, known for the low-key international politics and the reticence of the use of force. In the beginning of the 1990s, right after the end of the Cold War, Germany and Japan were perplexed as to how to deal with the unfamiliar challenges in the non-post-modern global society. However, after passing through their initial confusions, two countries have begun to advance the “normalization” by deploying their armed forces for purposes other than the defense of German or Japanese territories and by asserting their national interests in the regional and international affairs. The notion of ‘normalization’ has entered the discourse on international relations theory. A critical mass of international relations scholars has debated whether or not Germany and Japan are in the process of normalization acquiring political and military power commensurate with its almost universally acknowledged great economic power. This paper is to attempt to analyze the key points of debates between two major international relations theories — that is to say, realist approach and cultural approach — and to comprehend the limits of two approaches. The paper thereby argues that it is imperative that the new framework must be developed in order to figure out whether or not Germany and Japan are finally ‘normalizing’. | |||||||||
