In particular, I clarify the contents of folk songs touching on historical events that actually took place in southern Xinjiang from the nineteenth to the first half of the twentieth century, as well as historical figures who were active during that time; I also study how these contents have been interpreted and given meaning. Building on this, I analyze the contents of historical songs recorded in the Qing period having themes similar to those published in the PRC era, comparing and contrasting them to examine how they have been interpreted and evaluated.
