| 内容記述 | Popular media is saturated with references to love, yet the precise meaning of the word can differ significantly from instance to instance. This essay examines several common ways in which the word “love” is used in Anglophone culture, and performs a concise historical study of the evolution of these different meanings. Beginning with ideas of love in Greek philosophy and epic poetry, it then examines early Christian ideas about sexual desire, chivalric ideas about love in the Middle Ages, and more recent political critiques of traditional relationship norms. Examples of lyrics from late-20th century popular songs are used to demonstrate how these themes continue to resonate in the modern era. |
