Many scholars have analyzed voter turnout and/or the results of these referendums. In this paper, I reanalyze referendums held before March 2005 building upon analyses by Sunahara （2018）. I find that turnout tends to be lower in referendums held without adequate time to inform voters of the referendum and the options on the ballot. I also find that referendums that offer voters more options reduce turnout.
