It has examined four content and four process theories which authors, researchers, and practitioners in the academic and practical disciplines of management, industrial psychology, and motivation psychology have developed. The author finds that many of the ideas underlying these theories are complementary and are studied and applied in the practical situations without much attention to their differences and similarities. Although no single theory explains all aspects of employee motivation, theoretical explanations often serve as the basis for the development of approaches and techniques to increase the level of motivation in distinct areas of human endeavor. As a practical management function, motivation is very much needed by managers in any organization for its employees, where management and/ or leadership style has an important role to play. Managers and leaders should develop, adopt, and implement effective motivational styles and measures so that their people are adequately motivated for their current and future jobs and for the achievement of their personal goals together with those of the employing organizations. The employing organizations and their managements should promote adequate environment to diffuse information on corporate goals and mission and indoctrinate people to develop genuine corporate identity and work relentlessly and enthusiastically to achieve corporate goals and mission. Working people in general perform their responsibilities better if they are inspired and motivated that their employers provide them with needful job security and working conditions and promote their loyalty and belongingness to the organization.}, pages = {119--136}, title = {A Review of Motivation Theories in Management}, year = {2022} }
