| 内容記述 | The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) was published in 2001 as a comprehensive framework for language learning, teaching, and assessment. Since then, CEFR has been widely applied to language education internationally and has also been introduced in English education in Japan. Since the publication in 2001, information technology has advanced, and globalization has accelerated. Reflecting the need for changes in CEFR, the Council of Europe published the draft of CEFR Companion Volume (CEFR/ CV 2018) and the final version of CEFR Companion Volume (CEFR/ CV 2020). Pluriculturalism has been further emphasized as one core concept in CEFR/ CV 2018 and CEFR/ CV 2020. Although the spread of Covid-19 has restricted international travel and study, the advancement of technology in online meeting tools has enabled people to connect with other people from all over the world. Even after Covid-19, we will continue to use online meeting tools for international communication, discussion, and collaboration, for which acquiring pluricultural competence may be helpful. In this paper, I will introduce pluriculturalism as one core concept of CEFR, the background and changes in CEFR/ CV 2018 and CEFR/ CV 2020. Finally, I will discuss the potential application of pluriculturalism to English education in Japan. | |||||||||
