| 内容記述 | Japan and Easter Island are separated by a huge distance and it takes a very long time to travel between the two. Perhaps surprisingly, though, Japanese constitute the fourth most numerous tourists to Easter Island. Based on data obtained through the surveys that we conducted on Easter Island, this paper explores the possible reasons for this, and will also consider the relationships and opinions held amongst the Japanese tourists, local Rapa Nui (i.e. people who were born and raised on Easter Island) and incoming residents from the mainland and elsewhere. The paper will also examine the views of the Japanese about their experiences on the island, and briefly investigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the local population. | |||||||||
