| 内容記述 | This study is an attempt to reveal the modernization of Buddhism faced by Chosoˇn (Chōsen)Buddhism in the modern era, by examined the missionary activities of Japanese Buddhism in Chosoˇn into Chosoˇn , and also identify the role and meaning of Buddhism in Imperial Japanʼs governing policy. As the number of Japanese residents increased with the port opening of Chosoˇn, Japanese Buddhist orders (shū) including Japanʼs Shinshū Ōtani-ha as the first group, Nichiren-shū , Sōtō-shū , and other shū also participated in opening of Japanese Buddhism in Chosoˇn Faced with the modernity of Japanese Buddhism, Chosoˇn Buddhism actively attempted to introduce Japanese monk training programs and modern operation of the religious order.However, Chosoˇn Buddhism, which had been weakening through the Chosoˇn era, had neither the ability nor the time to achieve independent modernization under the overwhelming influence of Japanese Buddhism. Gradually, each temple of Chosoˇn Buddhism came under the protection of each sect of Japanese Buddhism. However, the Governor-General of Chōsen did not want Chosoˇn Buddhism to be divided into sects of Japanese Buddhism. For this reason, the Governor-General of Chōsen announced that it would manage and govern Chosoˇn Buddhism as a unit by enforcing related laws such as the Temple Ordinance of 1911. In this historical process, Chosoˇn Buddhism caused a fierce conflict within their organization, and the Temple Ordinance of 1911 and other related laws created various problems for the religious legal system. It has had a negative impact not only during the Imperial Japanese rule era, but also during the US military government occupation era and even in this modern Korea. | |||||||||||
