| 内容記述 | The purpose of this article is to introduce the remains of Seon-gam Academy, a war site in Gyeonggi-do Province, Korea, and to examine its historical background and the problems up to date. Seon-gam Academy is a national reform school established in 1942 in Korea under the occupation of Japan. Many street children, who vagaboned in cities such as Seoul, were taken to the Academy and reformed, but at the same time labor, abuse, and torture were also carried. This school was once closed after the WWII and transferred to Gyeonggi-do Province in the 1960s. Being used as a detention center for tramps and orphans, it remained until Provincial financial difficulties in 1982. The boys suffered from forced repressive labor and discipline and violence after the War again. The existence of Seon-gam Academy has been known in Korea after the 1990s but still almost unknown in Japan. I would like to tell the present state of Seon-gam Academy as a war site, follow its history, and examine about the juvenile reform policies during the Japanese occupation period and why the school to be a juvenile detention center after the WWII. |
