| 内容記述 | This paper aims at understanding the social context and background of establishing girls’commercial high school during the 1950s in South Korea and considering the characteristic of its expansion. In 1951, the reorganization of school system established high schools as upper secondary education and classified them into general high schools and vocational high schools according to its purpose of educational program. Then, girls’ commercial high schools appeared as vocational high school which intended to train female students for an office worker. Meanwhile, due to serious confusion and damage by Korean war, South Korean society was suffering from the economic difficulty and resource shortage. While the number of high schools, especially boys’ high schools and girls’ general high schools, increased in such difficult social condition, girls’ commercial high schools developed no more than 3％ in all high school and one fifth of girls’ general high schools. It seems that girls’ commercial high schools developed less than other high schools, but it expanded in urban area and the center of each district. They were established not only based on former girls’ commercial middle schools, other types of middle school and private schools, but as the girls’ class in boys’ high schools especially in which girls’ commercial high school didn’t exist. In addition to this, girls’ general high schools and vocational high schools in a particular region also set up the commercial class for female students. In short, commercial education in high schools was developed with multiple forms even in the rare opportunity of white-color work for female and very low school attendance rate of female students. Therefore, it is obvious that in the 1950s girls’ commercial high schools, including several forms of commercial classes for female students, began to be recognized in Korean society as vocational schools for women. | |||||||||||
