| 内容記述 | This study examined appraisal issues regarding municipal archives from a practical perspective, using the Chiba Prefectural Archives as the case study. Archival appraisal methods and criteria vary from one municipality to another. Previous studies have focused on the problem of institutional analysis, and the system’s operation has been mostly overlooked. Archival appraisal is a difficult task. The present study pointed out that the factors that make evaluation and selection difficult include the concept of what constitutes a historical document and the physical problem of being unable to scrutinize the document’s contents due to the large number of documents to be evaluated and screened. The former concluded that not only “records important to the prefectural government” but also “records important to the citizens of the prefecture” are historical public documents. In contrast, it determining what kind of documents fall under this category remains as a future task. For the latter, it is necessary to confirm the contents in order to share the same understanding with the original department, but considering the transfer schedule, it is difficult to verify every aspect. | |||||||||||||||||
