| 内容記述 | In this paper, I describe the narratives of Mongolian men living in rural areas of Eastern Inner Mongolia regarding “encounters and marriage” with women. I aim to reveal how these narratives have changed based on surveys carried out 6 years apart from each other and examine the difficulties of encounters and marriage for these men living in an era of marriage difficulties. I carried out a semi-structured interview in 2023 with four men who were participants in an earlier survey I conducted in 2017 on unmarried men and analyzed the data from the 2nd interview. Of the men who were unmarried in 2017, two men were married and two men remained unmarried at the time of the 2023 survey. As a result of this survey, it was discovered that （1）though men share the fact that they live in an era where marriage is difficult, each have their own differing implications and interpretations about “encounters” and “marriage”; （2）a person will have different narratives when they are unmarried compared to when they are already married, and those narratives can contradict each other and evolve; and （3）based on the narratives from both the 1st survey and 2nd survey, unmarried men felt that even if they are able to meet someone, the whole process of finding a matching partner with a mutual desire and determination to get married has become increasingly more difficult. |
