Ishibashi expressed concerns about UN aid preferentially reaching military-controlled areas and emphasized the need for support through the National Unity Government (NUG) and ethnic minority groups. He met with NUG ministers and the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok to discuss the situation and advocate for expanded third-country resettlement and cross-border support, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has yet to approve. Ishibashi also engaged with Thailand’ s Move Forward Party regarding refugee support and educational aid. As secretary-general of the Diet Members Caucus to Support Democracy in Myanmar, he organized a meeting on February 1, 2024, to discuss restoring democracy in Myanmar, featuring NUG’ s minister.
