| 内容記述 | As discussed in Issue No. 32 of this journal, Masataka Kosaka (1934–1996), a former professor at Kyoto University, was one of Japanʼs leading international political scholars in the postwar era. Kosakaʼs prominence extended beyond international politics; he was also a distinguished diplomatic and civilizational historian. His approach to international politics was deeply intertwined with diplomatic history research, maintaining a strong interest in historical studies throughout his career. When Kosaka became a graduate assistant in the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University in 1957, he was affiliated with the diplomatic history chair, as international politics had yet to be established as a separate discipline. This early association with diplomatic history formed one of the foundational elements of Kosakaʼs academic pursuits. A lesser-known aspect of Kosakaʼs career is his teaching of “Diplomatic History” courses for two years in the early 1990s. In these lectures, as in his “International Politics” classes, Kosaka distributed comprehensive handouts each session, delivering his lectures in a straightforward and occasionally witty manner. The documents presented in this issue comprise the lecture notes from Kosakaʼs “Diplomatic History” course in the 1991 academic year. Kosakaʼs “Diplomatic History” lectures were characterized by three key elements: analysis within the framework of international politics, examination of the evolution of nationalism, and application of historical events to contemporary issues. This unique perspective rendered his lectures a “one-generation-only” educational experience. These handouts provide valuable insight into Kosakaʼs academic background and his role as an educator. Furthermore, they offer potentially significant perspectives on the development of international politics as a discipline in Japan, contributing to a broader understanding of the fieldʼs evolution in the postwar period. | |||||||||||||||||
