| 内容記述 | How do Japanese people perceive the countries around the world? How do they obtain information about foreign countries? This study examines what kind of knowledge and impressions that contemporary Japanese people have about foreign countries, and the factors that shape their perceptions. The results of the two surveys showed that media exposure indicators （including the internet media） were positively correlated with respondents’ accurate knowledge about foreign countries. Additionally, socio-economic variables such as gender, education level, and assets also had significant impacts on respondents’ knowledge. These results suggest that individuals in socially advantageous status tend to have more knowledge about foreign countries. Moreover, contrary to previous research, political conversations and online communication appeared to have a rather negative effect. |
