| 内容記述 | This is an exploratory essay on Nosho Kenkoku Ben (A Treatise on Agriculture and Commerce as the Economic Basis of a Nation), which is believed to be either an alternative version or an augmented edition of Nosho Ben (A Treatise on Agriculture and Commerce), originally written by KANDA Takahira towards the end of the Edo period. Both works compared the relative merits of a nation founded on agriculture with one founded on commerce. It is thought that the production of Nosho Kenkoku Ben owed a great deal to YOROZUYA Hyoshiro (known also as FUKUDA Takanori, FUKUDA Meiga and by other aliases). This essay is my attempt at establishing a hypothesis for studying the intellectual dimension of YOROZUYA. I began by examining the bibliographic aspects of Nosho Kenkoku Ben including manuscript descriptions, and extrapolated that YOROZUYA himself had been responsible for revising and supplementing Nosho Ben. Based on this premise, I conducted a comparative analysis of the two works. As a result, I have identified some of the characteristic aspects of Nosho Kenkoku Ben, which I have presented here with a particular focus on the section titled “Yuten Shigen” (Some Private Thoughts on Imaginary Fears) that was inserted as a foreword. | |||||||||
