| 内容記述 | Assuming that an actualization of the freedom of association is one of the essential indicators for the development of civil society, the author attempts to measure the participation of local inhabitants in civic associations in the case of two middle-sized cities in post-socialist countries: Olomouc in Czech Republic and Prešov in Slovakia. To begin with, civic associations are classified into four types: Political, regional, socio-cultural and religious. And then a correlation between the type of civic association on one hand, and the degree of inhabitantsʼ participation in a particular association on the other, is examined. Findings are as follows: Participants in the political type of associations are mainly elderly inhabitants, not many of younger and high-educated people, while those in the associations for cultural and leisure activities are mainly younger and high-educated people. The associations for regional/local socio-economic development, environmental protection or social affairs are maintained mainly by those of middle and upper class and high-educated strata. In Presov not a few people participate in the religious association, many of whom are low-income inhabitants. |
