And then a correlation between the type of civic association on one hand, and the degree of inhabitantsʼ participation in a particular association on the other, is examined. Findings are as follows:\n　Participants in the political type of associations are mainly elderly inhabitants, not many of younger and high-educated people, while those in the associations for cultural and leisure activities are mainly younger and high-educated people. The associations for regional/local socio-economic development, environmental protection or social affairs are maintained mainly by those of middle and upper class and high-educated strata.
