| 内容記述 | This is a discourse on how individual persons and society are connected and on where the raison d'être of Policy Studies lies, taking, as its point of departure, Aristotle's principle that to know anything is to know its first causes. Because humans are spontaneous beings whose activities are intended to attain ends that are generated from within, the first principle of human beings is to perfect the life of activities by actualizing the potency and by attaining the complete reality of being. This principle cannot be separated from society in which the life of activities is made possible and unfolds. Thus individual persons and society are inseparably connected through their mutual causality. The complementarity between the two underlies the duty for each person to develop the endowed potential fully and to observe moral rules of conduct. The life of activities can be perfected only if this potential is fully actualized. Such actualization comes about from absolute faith in one's self, which requires freeing of one's mind from misconceived ideas and prejudices, suspending all dubious judgments, and trusting one's practical wisdom that guides the life of activities purely for the sake of perfecting it. This actualization is the ultimate cause of the development of socio-economic order through deepening of the complementarity among the activities of persons. Policy Studies draws its ultimate justification from the mutual causality between the life of activities of individual persons and socio-economic order, with its call for multidisciplinary thinking that aims at apprehending the complex causes of this order by integrating diverse knowledge from sciences and humanities and at building on such integrative knowledge the art of solving complex problems that stand in the way of the activities of mankind. The discourse ends with an observation on the role that language acquisition plays in making possible the life of activities of human beings and the development of socio-economic order. | |||||||||
