内容記述 | Entering the full-scale internet age, the established mass media, inter alia, the newspapers that have been playing a major role in reporting news and posting opinions, are steadily declining in circulation. Under the circumstances, the major newspaper companies have launched online subscription services at certain fees, and are vigorously promoting such services. However, it seems that their promotional efforts have not achieved much success so far, as originally anticipated. Faced with the phenomenon that should be called "the trend away from the papers", which is spreading rapidly across generations, particularly among youth in their twenties, the question is whether online subscriptions can be a new business model that takes over the traditional newspapers and provide a firm management basis of the newspaper companies. This paper analyzes future prospects of online subscriptions as a new business model under the growing popularity of internet services that is putting increasing pressure on the management to meet the trend, by examining how successful online subscriptions have been so far and the problems that remain to be resolved. | |||||||||
