For the minority, what is the meaning of writing novels in the majority’s language? Although most Palestinian Arab writers in Israel are writing in Arabic, some writers choose Hebrew. Anton Shammas （1950-） chose the Hebrew language for “Arabesques” because of his responsibility. He wrote the story set in some traditional Arab world in Hebrew. That language allows him “security” at the same time. On the other hand, it is not yet a choice for a younger generation writer, Sayed Kashua （1975-）. He is willing to write in Hebrew because he doesn’t know much about literary Arabic. The world of his writings is in the Israeli arena. These language choices, in some extent, relate to the difference in generations.
