| 内容記述 | EU, and particularly the Eurozone, is facing a crisis as can be seen in the economic meltdown in Greece. This paper observes why crisis occurs in the Eurozone and how it has progressed, using Rousseau’s war theory described in his, “The Social Contract or Principles of Political Right” and “Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequality Among Men”. In his “Discourse on the Origin of Inequality” Rousseau portrays the process of how a nation created by the rich but involving the poor, starts to deviate from the law, and how citizens, as a consequence, fall into a state of war among themselves. If we replace the rich with “rich countries” and the poor with “poor countries”, the history of “a new nation” named the Eurozone, from its formation up to present, overlaps with the process depicted in “Discourse on the Origin of Inequality”. By Applying Rousseau’s war theory instead of Hobbes’, we can understand the movement of the Eurozone, from its birth to the actual situation where people are now in a state of conflict. A review of the Eurozone’s history from Rousseau’s point of view will make it possible for us to approach Rousseau’s method for avoiding conflict. It will also make it possible for us to deliberate on another form of EU integration, different from the current one. |
