However, peace has not been discussed very deeply in Japan, because the meaning of the word is ambiguous in Japanese language.\nIn this article, I will try to clarify the background of the meaning of peace in Japanese in terms of Japanese culture and spirituality. In this first of the series, I will consider the philosophy of peace in Indian Buddhism which is the origin of Buddhism, the foundation for Japanese culture.\nThen, we will find out the philosophy of peace which is different from the one of Western civilization.
