内容記述 | In Japan, recent research shows that the number of (young) people who are sexually inactive (also called sexless) has increased, particularly from the 2000’s. Although sexual inactivity in romantic relationships has been widely observable from the 2000’s, at the same time, there has been an increase in the number of men and women aged 40-60 having sexual affairs with other people than their spouses. In addition, the social acceptance of sexual affairs – under the condition that they do not negatively affect their familyhas increased. Based on previous studies and the author’s interview surveys in Japan, this article compares Japanese couples with couples in German speaking countries and shows the differences between the importance that sexuality has in committed relationships within these countries. This presentation emphasizes that in a committed Japanese relationship, sexual satisfaction is not necessarily strongly connected to intimacy, whereas in German speaking countries, sex within a couple relationship does not only mean intimacy and pleasure, but also acknowledgement of the individual, the partner and the couple. In German-speaking countries, sexual inactivity therefore implies a denial of individuals, partners and the relationship. This presentation also argues that the sexless phenomenon and extramarital affairs in western society are delicate issues to talk about. The aim of this presentation is to show that there is not only “one” sexuality and it is cultural and social constructed. |
