| 内容記述 | Isang Yun (1917－95), a world famous Korean composer and exile in Germany and Yoshimi Kondo (1913－2006), a Japanese tanka poet called “a locomotive of modern tanka” showed a deep interest and an earnest wish for the peace of East Asia and expressed it in their works. They failed to meet in Tokyo in 1992. This paper is an attempt to envision their failed conversation over their childhood in Korea under the rule of Japanese Empire and explore how they became artists in the period of modernization in the colonial Korea, by comparing their family background, their memories about Korea, their education of literature, history, music, and fine arts under the modern system or in the traditional way, and their attitudes toward the nation and the homeland. While Kondo was raised as an elite of the Japanese Empire without learning Korean language and culture and developed a longing for the Western culture, Yun learned and nurtured love and pride for a vanishing Korean tradition.Although Kondo showed a different attitude toward Korea and its culture from Japanese female poets in Korea such as Toshiko (Nakamura) Kondo and Kazue Morisaki, he developed a critical viewpoint about Japan and Korea because of his unmasquline sensibility and love for beauty. | |||||||||
