| 内容記述 | This study investigated the origin and diffusion of “Begins and Ends with a Bow.” in Japanese martial arts. Takaharu Naito first used this term in 1905. However, I revealed that Sanemichi Kumamoto wrote an idea similar to that in 1891. The Dai Nippon Butoku Kai played an important role in the diffusion of this expression. As a result, itʼs phrase became popular in the martial arts industry by the early Showa period. In addition, this study considered about the proper implication of this slogan, and found an affinity between martial arts and civility in terms of worldly wisdom or self-defense. Consequently, I propose that those peoples who practice martial arts should eventually reach the ultimate stage on mastering civility as a survival strategy. | |||||||||
