| 内容記述 | This paper studies Book II and Book III of Aristotle's Ethica Nicomachea, in relation to the notion of the actuality of man as a rational potency in Book IX of his Metaphysica, with respect to (1) what virtues of character are, (2) why such virtues are essential for the life of actions whose complete reality consists in activities in which the end of action is present in acting itself, (3) in what sense man's actions and virtues are voluntary, (4) what choice is, in relation to desire and reason, and (5) what role choice plays in guiding the life of actions to the ultimate actuality it can attain. It also discusses the fundamental difference between Aristotle's notion of eudaimonia and Kant's notion of happiness. The subject regarding the role that virtues of intellect play in actualizing the complete reality of man's life of actions is relegated to another paper that is a sequel to this. | |||||||||
