| 内容記述 | On March 11, 2011, a natural disaster and severe nuclear accident caused great damage to a large part of eastern Japan and consequently revealed to us the very fragility of contemporary social systems. The problematic situations since 3/11 are so vast and complicated that we are far from the normalization the government declared. In order to understand these problems, this article focuses upon the theoretical efforts of an Italian sociologist, Alberto Melucci. He considers today’s globalized world a “planetary society,” a society totally interconnected within itself but still dependent on its natural home. An awareness of this twofold relation to the globe could provide a theoretical hint toward tackling the multiple problems since 3/11. First, we review Melucci’s theoretical development in his works and show that he utilized the term “complex society” to analyze the main feature of contemporary society in his intermediate works but substituted it with the concept of a planetary society in his later works. Second, we examine the meaning of complex society in relation to the problematic situations after 3/11. Next, a discussion will follow that the planetary society incorporates aspects of the physical limits of the society, the planet Earth, and the body, which the complex society does not. | |||||||||
