| 内容記述 | Sociologists generally believe that social capital and community participation have declined in tandem in the West. This paper argues that the relation between the two is not the same in East Asia. Using representative data from China, Japan and South Korea, this paper finds that: in China, neighborhood relations are close, but community participation is weak; Japanese and South Korean are estranged with their neighbors, yet their community participation is very active. Consequently, sociologists’ understanding about the relationship between social capital and community participation deserves further investigation. | |||||||
