| 内容記述 | This paper examines the reactions of local inhabitants to the European refugee crisis and describes the protests that have occurred at the border barriers in Trieste （Italy） and Istria （Slovene and Croatia）. Since 2015, the refugee crisis has posed a dilemma that has challenged Europe’s liberal democratic ideals. The paper will first elucidate the manner in which the border blockade was built in Istria in December 2015 and how the local representatives who gathered in Trieste decided to protest against the border barriers. Next, the paper will detail the conditions observed at the site of the border blockade that occurred in September 2016 between Slovenia and Croatia. The barbed wire fence still remains along this border and the local inhabitants are witness to the events that have unfolded. One of the findings of the paper is that Istria’s protests against the establishment of border barriers evince that there is not much discrepancy between perspectives and judgements of ordinary citizens and their political representatives. | |||||||||
